Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravy 2. girts 3. Purple Hull peas 4. Blackeyed peas. 5. cornbread 6. turnip greens 7. fried okra. 8. Deep fried fresh water catfish. My guess is that you think very few of these would be “gourmet” food. Am I right? If so, it just proves that Southern culture and Southern foods are considered inferior by many of you. Tell me what you think.

I despise asparagus, spinach, raspberries, exotic cheeses, mushrooms, dark chocolate, and meat that’s not well-done. I have tried each of these things, prepared numerous ways, and I still don’t like them. I nearly gag when I see people on TV eating these things and going “YUM!”

Does all gourmet food involve stuff like this?

My family has started this tradition, where the intermediate familys take turn cooking gourmet meals on Sundays after church. I’m in the process of moving to another city, and my turn is going to be coming up soon. I’m the only ‘child’ that still participates with family activies (brunch, calls reguarlary, still visits grandma) and I want to make something really good!

I live in a 1 b.r. apt, so theres not that much space, does anyone know something that I can cook that will be really good, unique, and not space consuming?
